Viewing Bourdon Street Chippy at Lyndsey Ingram

No seaside trip would be complete without fish and chips. Lucy Sparrow is back at Lyndsey Ingram with her latest spellbinding reinterpretation of a British favourite in felt. This time, Sparrow – with the help of her team – has transformed the galleries on Bourdon Street with 65,000 handmade felt pieces perfectly recreating a traditional chippy.

Expect to be awestruck by Sparrow’s staggering attention to detail – there are tables laid with plates of felted fish and chips, mustard, mayo and ketchup bottles, and a fridge stocked with all the classic cans of Coke, Sprite and Fanta. There’s even felted hygiene and allergy signs, posters and artworks on the walls.

Following on from the success of her corner shop, sex shop and more recently her pharmacy (at Lyndsey Ingram in 2021) Sparrow is a genius at evoking nostalgia and connecting people to familiar places where everyone can feel comfortable and at ease. A feel-good installation is sure to be a summer hit.
