Doing Hospital Rooms: Like there is hope and I can dream of another world

Here’s your chance to see contemporary art making a difference. Currently installed across Hauser & Wirth’s London gallery is a major exhibition showcasing the work of arts and mental health charity Hospital Rooms. It is part of a new three-year long partnership with the charity to support their vital work in NHS mental health services.

Founded by artist Tim A Shaw and curator Niamh White, Hospital Rooms aims to radically transform the face of mental health care in the UK and beyond by bringing meaningful creative opportunities to those with severe and enduring mental health diagnoses.

‘We have been long-standing supporters of Hospital Rooms,’ says Hauser & Wirth Partner Neil Wenman. ‘Having seen the impact of their work in NHS mental health inpatient units across the country, we firmly believe that art plays an important role in changing lives and providing joy and dignity to stimulate and heal.’

You’ll see new works by Mark Titchner, Harold Offeh and Michelle Williams Gamaker that have been created in collaboration with people with lived experience of mental health services. Also featured is a new recorded composition created by the National Opera Studio in collaboration with students at the Springfield Hospital Recovery College.

Taking place on the final day of the exhibition is a live fundraising auction, featuring works by Julian Opie, Amy Sherald and Giles Deacon, among others. A little out of reach? Stay tuned for the new limited-edition release from Avant Arte x Hauser & Wirth in support of Hospital Rooms.
