Doing The World Reimagined sculpture trail: Camden to Westminster

Few topics are as little discussed in Britain as its involvement in the transatlantic slave trade. The World Reimagined initiative hopes to change that through art. Currently installed across the country are over 100 globes, each bearing the response of an individual artist to the global impact of the transatlantic slave trade. The project aims to raise awareness around the past and create a future for racial justice.

The initiative’s newest art trail (Camden-Westminster) features eleven new sculptures and takes you from Mornington Crescent tube station to Westminster Abbey via Lincoln’s Inn Fields. The large globe sculptures en route are inspired by the project’s nine key themes, ranging from ‘Mother Africa’ to ‘The Reality of Being Enslaved’.

Highlights include Nicola Green’s The World in a Waterlily, Amazonica at Westminster Abbey, which explores the deep-rooted connection between racial justice and climate justice; and Uncertain Voyage by Nadia Akingbule on Neal Street, which explores the complexity of Britain’s relationship with Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean across the generations.

After the exhibition, the globes will be auctioned at Bonhams. Catch it while you can.
