Happenings Chain of Hope at Saatchi Gallery
This week, Chain of Hope will be hosting a special fundraising exhibition and auction at London’s Saatchi Gallery. The charitable organisation, who provide life-saving cardiac care for children in developing and war-torn countries around the world, has invited renowned artists, designers and public figures, including Sir Anthony Gormley, Shirin Neshat, Idris Khan, Daniel Lismore, Sir Ian McKellen, Stephen Fry, Kate Moss and Bella Freud, to create responses to their latest campaign, “Share Your Heart”.
A live auction held at the Saatchi Gallery will provide the opportunity for guests to view and buy twelve of the works in the exhibition curated by arts patron and advocate Maria Sukkar.
An online auction for the rest of the collection, with 59 pieces available, is currently live and running until Friday 14 February. Check out the works and bid for a piece here.
The paintings, drawings, and photographs by this exceptional group each interpret the heart motif in poignant, compelling, and playful ways. Highlights include Rana Begum‘s heart daubed with luminescent spheres of bright colour; Multi-disciplinary artist Shezad Dawood’s painting that pays homage to the heart form in nature; and artist duo Nick and Rob Carter who have present a shimmering, illusory take on the iconic shape. This is a unique chance to acquire never-see-before and one-off works.
All of the artworks have been generously donated and proceeds will support the incredible work of Chain of Hope. Emma Scanlan, CEO of Chain of Hope, highlighted the importance of the Share Your Heart initiative:
“It is a little-known fact that one baby in every hundred is born with heart disease. Around the world, many of these children lack access to the life-saving treatment they need. This campaign is a beautiful way to not only raise awareness but also give individuals the opportunity to make a tangible difference. Each piece of art purchased helps us continue our vital work providing treatment for children in developing and war-torn countries through our network of volunteer surgeons and medical teams. Buying a heart isn’t just a unique Valentine’s gift—it’s a link in the Chain to mend children’s hearts.”
