Happenings V&A East Storehouse

London’s cultural landscape is getting a new addition. Opening on 31 May 2025, the long-anticipated V&A East Storehouse will transform the way we experience museums, turning inside out the behind-the-scenes magic of collection care, conservation, and curating.

Located at East Bank in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the four-storey, 16,000m² venue is bigger than 30 basketball courts and houses more than half a million objects. From Glastonbury Festival memorabilia and Roman frescoes to Samurai swords, vintage football shirts, and Elton John’s sequinned stage outfits, there is something for everyone.

Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the Storehouse is buzzing with activities. A standout feature – the Order an Object experience, a world-first service that allows anyone access to see any object they choose, seven days a week. Whether you’re a student, designer, or just Culturally Curious, you can finally get up close and personal with the V&A’s storied collection.

Weave through over 100 mini-displays tucked into the storage systems and explore stories from East London’s rich heritage of making and activism to global icons like David Bowie (whose 90,000-item archive opens on-site in September 2025). Look out for co-produced installations too, from oral histories of Poplar’s Robin Hood Gardens to community-led workshops reimagining Mughal architecture through the 17th-century Agra Colonnade.

And there’s more to come: V&A East Museum follows in spring 2026. But for now, the Storehouse promises a radical rethinking of public access, opening up the V&A’s treasure troves not just to admire, but to explore, question, and create.
