This week’s Culturally Curious Hop saw The Wick in conversation with Linder Sterling to discuss her new exhibition at Hayward Gallery, ‘Linder: Danger Came Smiling’, curated by Rachel Thomas.

This exhibition is the first London retrospective of British artist, tracing five decades of Sterling’s provocative photomontage and feminist critique. The exhibit showcases the full range of her artistic practice, including photomontage, photography, performance, and sculpture.

Her distinct visual language is characterised by a playful irreverence, exploring the sexual commodification of the female body within magazine culture. Central to Sterling’s approach to image-making is the body and its photographic representation, ranging from early glamour photography to digital deep fakes.
