Since opening her eponymous interior design studio in 2016, Natalia Miyar has completed high-profile residential and commercial projects around the world, including the recent renovation of Mayfair’s The Twenty Two. She is revered in the world of interiors for her artful use of pattern, colour and texture, as well as her focus on balance and proportion.
These design elements also characterise her striking collection of wallcoverings for Fromental that celebrates her Cuban roots and love of Latin American culture. The palette of Vedado, the initial expression for the collection, was inspired by La Jungla, a brightly coloured canvas by the renowned Cuban painter Wilfredo Lam. Building upon the original colourway, Miyar and Fromental worked to develop three additional variations, each recalling the grandeur of Old Havana.
Equally striking is the collection’s exquisite texture. Miyar experimented with a variety of techniques that include hand-painted marbling and paint speckles. The specialist cracked eggshell inlay creates the effect of colour-blocking from afar. Once printed, the design is hand-finished with metallic foil to frame each segment of the wallcovering. We’re in love with the Vedado iteration. You?
