For Yayoi Kusama, pumpkins are a source of comfort in the visual hallucinations she has suffered since childhood. ‘With their infinite spirituality they contribute to the peace of mankind across the world,’ she once said. ‘Pumpkins bring about poetic peace in my mind.’ Kusama painted her first pumpkin as a teenager, but it was not until the 1980s that she covered them in her signature dots. Today her black and yellow spotted pumpkins are among her most celebrated works. Snap up this sculptural variety from c.2015 and you’ll be Halloween ready in no time.
