David Shrigley’s Companion Pendant 12 takes one of the artist’s wonderfully awkward figures and gives it a new life as jewellery. Created with Louisa Guinness in 2021, the little blackened silver figure began as a wax model made by Shrigley himself, a process that preserves the marks of his hands and fingerprints when the form is cast in metal. The Companion series grew out of Shrigley setting himself a challenge to work progressively smaller, resulting in an array of unique figures with all the humour and deliberate awkwardness of his wider practice. This pendant is unique within the series, signed, numbered and hallmarked – a miniature Shrigley with all his oddball charm intact.
