Viewing Bold Tendencies returns for a summer celebrating communion with concerts and art in Peckham

Nothing says London summer like Bold Tendencies – an annual seasonal celebration that takes over four floors of the now-iconic multi storey car park on Rye Lane, with panoramic views over the city. The art programme on the rooftop this year includes new commissions by artists Saelia Aparicio, Olu Ogunnaike and Adam Farah-Saad, as well as Yoko Ono’s poetic instructional ‘painting’ Air Talk, first exhibited in London in 1967, and a supersize version of Martin Parr’s Sorrento, Italy (2014) wrapped around the side of a building, part of the British artist’s Beach Therapy series.

If the art isn’t already compelling enough, Bold Tendencies live programme kicks off at the end of June, with a host of concerts and readings, this year responding to a theme of ‘communion’, whether that’s spiritual, political, collective, individual, physical or digital – successful or failed. “There is no communion without community; no community without culture and creativity,” as Bold Tendencies put it.

Among the hot tickets coming up: an evening of music by all seven members of the Kanneh-Masons, performing scores by Handel, Schubert and Chopin among others; the Philharmonia Orchestra and a celebration of James Baldwin’s centenary including a 100th Birthday Concert with National Youth Jazz Orchestra led by Peter Edwards. Access to the artworks is free, but all events in the live programme require a ticket.
