Viewing DIVA

Get your diva on and strut over to the V&A for its innovative exhibition, DIVA. Celebrating the power and creativity of cultural icons and performers who made sure their voices were heard above the crowd, this exhibition is the first of its kind. Bringing together figures from multiple art forms such as opera singers, actors and global megastars, the display spotlights the like of Maria Callas, Marilyn Monroe, Tina Turner, Elton John, Shirley Bassey, P!nk, and CHER, all who have influenced the development of culture and used their platform to fight for positive social and political change including civil rights and feminism.

Showcasing over 250 objects from the V&A’s collection and loans from across the world, the exhibition brings an international perspective to these narratives. From classical to contemporary, this display explores the development of the meaning of DIVA from the 19th Century to the present day. As Shirley Bassey puts it, “‘Diva’ is all about the power of the voice and the ability to entertain, to succeed against the odds, to fight, and breakthrough barrier after barrier: to have your voice heard.” So, join the crowds in breaking the status quo and reclaim your DIVA at the V&A this summer.
