Viewing Louise Bourgeois: Drawing Intimacy 1939 – 2010 and Fabian Peake: an eye either side

Landing at Hauser & Wirth Somerset this autumn is a new exhibition of paintings, sculptures and works on paper by Louise Bourgeois that have never been publicly exhibited before. Hailing from Bourgeois’s private collection, they reveal the artist’s lifelong explorations of self as well as her masterful handling of diverse media and material.

You’ll encounter works spanning some seventy years, from an early wall relief and selection of plaster sculptures to previously unseen paintings, drawings and works on paper. It’s an opportunity to appreciate the sensitivity and strength of her distinctive vision: ‘It is not an image I am seeking. It is not an idea. It is an emotion you want to recreate, an emotion of wanting, of giving, and of destroying,’ she once said.

Running alongside this exhibition is a solo show by Fabian Peake. It brings together early paintings from the 1970s and new works that showcase the artist’s experimental use of media. It’s a fitting celebration of the artist’s 80th birthday and broad, multifaceted career.
Once you’ve had your art fix, stroll around the beautifully curated Piet Oudolf gardens, before refuelling at Roth Bar & Grill. Hop on the train and make a day of it.
