Two Temple Place opens its doors this August for
Celebration of Makers, a free four-day festival dedicated to the craft embedded in one of London’s most ornate interiors. Presented with
City & Guilds of London Art School, the four-day programme puts making back into the building that depends on it, with demonstrations, workshops, talks and student work throughout the festival.
Two Temple Place is all carved wood, stone, stained glass and gilded detail, a building made for close looking. The festival brings this craftsmanship into the spotlight, with demonstrations, conservation insights and the chance to see the hands behind the ornament.
Across Thursday to Sunday, visitors can see demonstrations in wood carving, stone carving, gilding, book and paper conservation and stained glass, alongside a City & Guilds students’ showcase.
Crafty Fox Market returns on Saturday with independent makers, while family workshops and drop-in activities bring a hands-on route into the programme.
The evening talks extend the conversation, including
The Hands that Made the Victorian World and
Making Two Temple Place: The architect John Loughborough Pearson. Free admission all weekend, with some evening talks ticketed. This festival is proof that good making rewards anyone willing to look closely.
