New Balance is having a moment. The Boston-based brand counts Kaia Gerber, Tom Holland and Leonardo DiCaprio among its fans and has seen sneaker sales rise by over 100 per cent since January 2021. This surge in popularity is in part due to clever celebrity seeding and savvy partnerships with the likes of Ronnie Fieg, Bricks & Wood and the American designer Joe Freshgoods. Dropping this week is its collaboration collection with the Los Angeles-based artist Bryant Giles. Inspired by his own pair of customized, classic grey 992s, Giles has reimagined the 2002R, adding embroidered facial features to the olive canvas and text that reads ‘what now?’ to the heel. So, who’ll be the lucky recipient?
