A self-confessed art addict and passionate patron of the arts, Rob Suss has been collecting art for more than 30 years. Currently the CEO of Pictet Wealth Management UK, Suss also co-founded the Franks-Suss Collection in 2001, a 1000-piece-strong collection focused on supporting emerging talent. Artist Nourine Hammad is one of his most recent finds.

Rob Suss says: “Bottom line, she is incredibly talented, her work is playful and rich with technical skill. I believe Hammad to be not just the best hyperrealist artist I have come across but also a future leading artist in the wider contemporary art space.”
Working in pastels, pencils, watercolours and charcoal, Hammad’s drawings are so true to life they are often interpreted as three-dimensional. By approaching her subject matter honestly, she strives to celebrate both perfection and imperfection.

Hammad says: “My inspiration is deeply rooted in the everyday objects that are often overlooked but play a significant role in our lives. Through my work, I seek to shed light on the importance of such objects, like the pills series and the impact of drugs, and my dollar artwork that explores the impact of money.”

Her cultural heritage and personal experiences also play a significant role in her work. For instance, her “Arabic Calligraphy” series of hyperrealistic balloons and “Ancient Egyptian” series both pay homage to her roots. She also relishes the challenge of translating unique textures such as powder, wax and fur onto paper.

She says: “I find great satisfaction in bringing a sense of depth and texture to a two-dimensional surface and evoking the viewer’s senses through visual stimuli, even though they cannot physically feel the texture with their hands.

“Currently, I’m exploring a new direction in my work that merges the latest art movements and emerging technologies. The world is constantly evolving, and I believe that it’s essential to stay ahead of the curve and create works that not only reflect the present but also the future. I believe that this new direction will allow me to create work that speaks to the changing times we live in while remaining true to my artistic vision and identity.”

Since 2015, Hammad has taken part in several exhibitions in Plus One Gallery in London and has been collected not only by Rob Suss but worldwide.

Hammad says: “There are moments that just take my breath away, like when Mo Salah acquired one of my pieces. I mean, to have a football superstar own one of my artworks, that’s pretty special!”

She adds: “But I think, when I reflect on my journey so far, my biggest achievement is really where I am today. When I started out, I was completely self-taught and had to build my business from scratch. It was definitely not an easy road, and there were many struggles along the way. But, through it all, I never gave up and remained consistent with my work. And now, to see how far I’ve come and how much my art has grown, well, it’s just an incredible feeling. I still face challenges, but I’ve learned to tackle them head-on and keep moving forward. It’s been a remarkable journey, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next!”
